“Beautiful facilities but a very rude staff. As we entered the building - struggling with our backpacks and gear through the construction - the door man stood watching and smirking. When we entered we were behind two couples. The first couple asked about parking, owing to the construction, and were rudely told to 'find someplace in the city it is not something we can control.' The second couple asked to 'check in early', in response they were told 'no problem, there are lots of rooms available.' When we stepped up with reservation and the same request the front doorman / desk clerk - judging us by our appearance announced that it would be '2-3 hours before another room could be made available''. Instead ignoring the fact that he had watched us struggle in with heavy backpacks told us 'perhaps you could hike up and down the shoreline for a few hours'. So your advice because you don't like us is to trek with 40 lb backpacks on in 38 degree heat 'up and down' the shoreline of Orillia 'for a few hours'? No offer of a storage closet to put our gear, no more salient suggestions? Well ultimately we did trek 'down the shoreline' to the next hotel and cancelled our reservation at the Champlain Waterfront. My advice to anyone going here is to check the reviews online - yes the building is beautiful, but the attitude is horrid.”

“There is a lot of construction in the area. We could not find parking and were not told ahead of time of this reality. When we went inside we were told we could park in the municipal parking area and would get a parking ticket and simply had to bring ticket back and they would pay. Seems like there is something more that could be done around this. The hallways are very narrow. The elevator was not working and the rooms are very tiny. The decor was pretty modern. The carpet was old. Would be great to not have carpet. The washroom was nice. We received a bag breakfast which was appreciated. Other than the tiny rooms, construction and parking situation, it was ok. The staff were so kind. I think it was pricey for what you get. The location was great. The restaurant closed I think around 10:30pm Because by the time we came down for a drink, they had closed. Would have been good to know they close early.”
